Add a QuoteBrodie: Listen, not a year goes by, not a year, that I don't hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid which could have easily been avoided had some parent - I don't care which one - but some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator.

Add a CommentI don't remember where it was, but Kevin Smith once publicly apologized for "Mallrats," his follow up to his ultra-low budget hit "Clerks." Watching it now, you wonder what the big deal was about any of his movies really. Sure they're funny enough, but they're juvenile, half-assed, and look worse than cheap TV commercials. I will give him props for being into comics before it was cool and giving Stan Lee a cameo. This was the film debut of Jason Lee, who would go on to do a bunch of other Smith movies. And Ben Affleck essentially plays the same a-hole character he played in "Dazed and Confused" (there are two other actors from that movie, collect 'em all!). It is a time capsule of the 90s, from the music to the fashion to what indie film meant to Shannen Doherty, who actually has top billing. Amusing, but forgettable. What were we talking about?
This movie had lots of potential unfortunately there are just to many bad parts. While there are lots of funny parts I wouldn't go out of my see it again. I would recommend this to fans of Kevin Smith as well as to fans of darker comedies.
