Remake of the 1980 Fame with modern dance and rap performances that reflect high schoolers in late 2000s. Good that it includes the best songs ("Fame" and "Out Here on My Own") from the original, and adds an excellent song "Hold Your Dream" performed and written by Naturi Naughton, actress/singer from R&B group 3LW, in the graduation show at the end.

This movie was great to watch but not good enough to get five stars. Recommended if you love musicals.

I expected much better for a movie about a performing arts school. For one thing, i expected the arts to be much more "wow they're so good" but it wasn't like that. So it was okay.

I loved the original and saw it many times. Don't bother with this one; it's tedious at best. I agree with some of the other comments that it was predictable and the characters aren't developed. Even with all it's flaws (and there are many) it does have some really good dancing and singing. One of the real bright spots, and the scene I actually watched a second time, was Megan Mullally singing.

Not nearly as good as the original series.

Poorly acted movie. Un-original plot line and very choppy transistions between the years. Predictable story line, but has some interesting dances; I recommend skipping to the very end for the ballet solo and pas de deux in the final performance. It wasn't as good as fame. In fact it couldn't have been farther from it.

I was disappointed and very glad that I did not see this in the theatre. I was not a huge fan of the tv show, but I found the script choppy and most of the acting was alright, but I could not truely identify with any of the characters because they did not have time to develop.

Welcome to the Freshman class, P1 of 2:

Welcome.
This year we received over 10,000 applications for the 200 openings from students all across New York City. And you got in. Congratulations! For the next four years, you have the unique opportunity to immerse yourselves in the arts. You can be spontaneous, original, maybe even a little outrageous. You got it made, right? Wrong. You're gonna have it twice as hard as everybody else. In the mornings, you're gonna have all your arts classes. After lunch, you will cram in a full day of academics. Drop below a C average and you're out. No exceptions. Now, let me make this very clear.

Welcome to the Freshman class, P2 of 2:

We don't care about your headshot. Or your dress size. Or your dreams of being in OK! Magazine, on talk shows, on the red carpet. Here, you will learn a discipline. Here, you will come to understand what being a performing artist really means. Here, you will dedicate yourself to your craft. Now, if you're looking for shortcuts, if you want fame, if you want easy rewards, I highly recommend that you get up and leave now. There are many very talented young people who would be thrilled to take your place. So, have a great year.

Some quotes in IMDb but the original song "Hold Your Dream" lyrics is the best:

Hold Your Dream
Naturi Naughton
Countless hours of learning more
Countless hours of knowing less
Can't look behind you
You have to look ahead.
So many doubts running through your mind
All the excuses
Don't have the time
All the rejection you have to leave behind
Leave it all behind
Hold your dreams
Don't ever let it go
Be yourself
And let the world take notice
You'll find strength
When people bring you down
They will see
If you will only, only believe
Someway, Somehow (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
Don't give up now (Don't give up)
Don't be afraid to succeed (to succeed, yeah)
Someway, somehow (Come on, everybody)
The time is…
